Before I get into this, I’d just like to make it clear that this is the best Creme Brûlée I HAVE EVER HAD, EVER.
So you want something home-cooked but you’ve already been outside for your allotted hour and can’t get to the shop, you can’t cook, or you’re not living with that person who invites everyone round for dinner at the weekend, well SUPPER by some guy called SHIRLEY, is what you need – immediately.
If Slow-Cooked Korean Brisket, Roast Chicken and Leek Pot Pie or Vegan Sri Lankan Curry with sides of whipped mash, crunchy, fluffy chips or tomato and herb salads, VANILLA CREME BRULEE WITH AN OAT COOKIE, Moroccan-spiced Orange and Almond Cake, Milk Chocolate Pots, SOUNDS LIKE A BIT OF YOU, then you must read on.
From April 10th, Shirley will be serving up hearty gastropub meals, sides and even puddings (deffo my highlight) to the lucky residents in Whalley Range, Chorlton, Didsbury and Stretford.
Although I don’t actually live in any of those areas I was lucky enough to get my hands on some dishes this weekend. I tried Shirley’s Vegan Pie, which actually fed me for three days, with roasted veg and some absolutely bangin’ homemade chips.
All that was then greedily followed by the pièce de résistance – creme brûlée. I have no idea how anyone can make this so well in the first place but then deliver it to my front door still in tact with the most perfectly caramelised top. I would have taken a better photo but there just wasn’t time.
All dishes are entirely homemade and the menu changes on a weekly basis, depending on what’s available in Shirley’s garden and available Thursday to Sunday. Ideal for that long weekend treat.
Last orders (pub-style) must be made by 9pm Wednesday because nobody can feed Manchester on just a few hours notice.
