Manchester’s beloved annual celebration ‘Come As You Are’ is back at The Refuge this August Bank Holiday – bigger and brighter than ever before.
The celebration of music, love and inclusivity will commence on Friday 27th August through to Monday 30th August, featuring live performances from House of Ghetto, The Family Gorgeous, The Sunday Boys and a collective of local DJ heroes.
Come As You Are weekender started five years ago in 2016, in the astonishing 10,000 square foot of The Refuge – one of the city’s most striking venues. The legendary party has now become an institution for Manchester’s party scene, synonymous with the unique togetherness that shines through the diverse and magical people that only Manchester has.
The three-day and three-night spectacular will be hosted at the cosy and covered terrace on Waterhouse Way. In true Refuge style, the team has hand-picked Manchester’s DJ heroes, showcasing local producers, collectives and club nights.
The Refuge will welcome DJs from across the board, from local legends DJ Paulette, Jamie Bull, BB (Supernature Disco) for all your house and disco mixes, to Refuge regulars Massey, Abigail Ward, Sprechen, Kim Lana, Lucy Ironmonger (Meat Free), Neil Diablo, Sticky Heat, Muddy Feet, Marco Giannini, Laura Jackson, High Hoops and Edit Presents. Jaegerossa, Faz & Tobie C, bringing you everything in between to keep the groove going all weekend.
Making a special appearance and bringing the good vibes, is the queer soulful social curated and hosted by DJ Mix-Stress & Deb Jump, Queer Latifah, and Studio Honey, a collective from Leeds which consist of EDIE, Reeta & Lisa Jane who’ll bring the best of disco and house.
Come As You Are will see a powerful live performance from House of Ghetto, a dance and visual arts collective that grew from the UK Vogue Ball scene – as they showcase their famous vogue walk.
The Family Gorgeous—one of the most famous drag families in Manchester made up of queens Cheddar Gorgeous, Anna Phylactic, Lill, TeTe Bang and Liquorice Black—host monthly club night Cha Cha Boudoir in Cruz 101. Also taking the stage for an unforgettable performance, is the all-male choir, The Sunday Boys – their captivating recital will be magical moment, uniting everyone attending Come As You Are.
Walk-ins only, no bookings required, Come As You Are is a free event, and will be on a first come, first served basis. Guests are encouraged to come down early to avoid disappointment, and there will be entertainment throughout the whole day and night.
