The Factory
Summer 2022 TBC
A brand-new cultural space for Manchester, MIF’s Factory building has been a long time coming, but this year we’ll see it open with some considerable fanfare indeed. It’ll be used to present an exciting year-round home for the festival; offering up one of Europe’s most ambitious and adventurous creative programmes, showcasing bold new world by the world’s most exciting artists. Blockbusters NQ
Spring 2022 TBC
We noticed some new signage go up on the old Tony & Guy Academy on Oldham Street in 2021, and it all points to what could be the city’s ultimate nostalgia trip – a Blockbuster’s video store themed bar. Very little else is known about this place yet, except that is comes from the people behind the excellent Chakalaka opposite – so we should all expect very good things.
Band on the Wall

The iconic music venue suffered greatly during the COVID-19 pandemic as live music and events ground to a standstill and they were faced with their ‘biggest crisis’ in history and forced to close and make staff redundant. They’ll be rising out of the flames of the pandemic in 2022 though with a huge new expansion, and that scaffolding that’s been up for nearly four decades – well, it’s coming down!
Lucky Mama’s
Early 2022 TBC
Last year Eccles favourites Lucky Mama’s announced that they’re set to move to a permanent site over in Chorlton – and 2022 will be the year that they finally open in the south Manchester suburb. We’ve been thoroughly impressed with Lucky Mama’s ever since we visited their trailer in their backyard on Edison Road in Eccles, and this new venture in Chorlton is a fantastic new chapter in their journey.
Dirty Old Town Distiller & Rum Garden

Opening a Christmas pop-up rum bar back in December, the team behind Salford Rum are the ones behind Dirty Old Town Distillery and Rum Garden – a new venture in the arches on Viaduct Street in Salford. Not only will they be producing thousands of bottles of rum per year here, but they’re also putting in an exciting new bar and rum garden concept.
Sexy Fish

Already a rather high-end Asian restaurant and late-night bar down in swanky Mayfair, Sexy Fish is coming to Manchester, and they’ve taken over the old Armani unit on Spinningfields – the one next to the John Rylands Library. We’re still light on concrete details, but expect some serious extravagance, coral reef tanks, and more – plus Japanese-inspired sushi, sashimi, seafood, fish and meat cooked on a charcoal fireplace grill.
Pippy Eats’ Noodlehaus

Cancer research scientist, turned cook, Pippa Middlehurst aka Pippy Eats is well-known on Manchester’s food scene for hosting her hugely popular noodle and dumpling supper clubs and workshops. In 2022 she will finally be ready to launch NOODLEHAUS, her very first permanent location in New Islington Marina, set to become home to her cookery school, supper clubs, workshops and events. The space will also be home to a Noodlehaus cookware and kitchen shop, where you’ll find all of the amazing products stocked on Pippa’s online Marketplace, plus cookery equipment and tableware.
Soho House

Yes, that’s right – Soho House is coming to Manchester. Located in the rapidly progressing St John’s Development at the Old Granada Studios site on Quay Street, the space will incorporate a bar, restaurant, external rooftop bar and, if rumours are to be believed, even a swimming pool area. As with all of the Soho House offerings, this will be one of the most exclusive experiences in the city – and will certainly be very impressive indeed when they open.
The Egyptian Rooms

Initially set for a Christmas 2021 opening, Oldham’s Egyptian Rooms faced a few setbacks last year, but 2022 should see them finally opening in earnest, with six casual dining food and drink offerings, set around a stunning central dining space and outdoor seating on the new Parliament Square.
Hello Oriental

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of Hello Oriental in Circle Square for around six months now, and hopefully we won’t have to wait for too long into 2022 to finally get the chance to visit. Set over three floors, Hello Oriental is a new food market and dining hall, offering fast and fresh Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, alongside a modern Chinese bakery and on-site supermarket – serving a vast array of international products and ingredients.

Urmston’s new market hall concept has been through the wars a bit during development, however just before Christmas planning permission for their newly re-designed modular building was granted, which should see work begin in early 2022 with an eventual opening hopefully in the tail end of the year.
Jollibee

Asia’s favourite fried chicken will be coming to Market Street in 2022 and you should look forward to some seriously weird and wonderful offerings from these fast-food specialists. A huge deal throughout Asia, they’re best known for their ‘Chickenjoy Fried Chicken’ but there’s also their ‘Jolly Spaghetti’ to contend with – tomato sauce, chopped hotdogs and pasta.
Lily’s Vegetarian (Ancoats)

The Ashton institution, which also now operate a very successful deli in Chorlton, will be moving to Ancoats in 2022, offering up their outstanding veggie and vegan Indian dishes alongside their baked goodies, sweets, groceries and so much more.
Blanchflower (Sale)

The Altrincham brunch and lunch specialists will finally be opening up in the new Stanley Square development in Sale in 2022, and we can hardly contain ourselves. If you’ve ever been to Blanchflower in Alty, or indeed the Longford Cafe in Stretford, you’ll know to expect the very highest-quality dishes, with everything made from scratch in-house. A fantastic new addition to Sale.
North Brewing Co.
Summer 2022 TBC
One of the potential new venues at the Circle Square development on Oxford Road is a bar and taproom from Leeds’ award-winning North Brewing Co. Started back in 2015 by John Gyngell and Christian Townsley, they turned their 10-year dream of making their own beer into a reality by opening a brewery with a 200-person capacity tap room. Expect plenty of fantastic craft beers and ales, and potentially food from the North’s very best street food vendors.

Food Sorcery

Didsbury’s Food Sorcery will be coming to Deansgate Square next year, a purpose-built cookery school and foodie event space specialising in a wide variety of experiences including hands-on cookery classes, parent and children classes, coffee lovers classes and ‘Cooking Together‘– Food Sorcery’s own unique twist on going out for dinner where learning and eating out blend into an exciting and uniquely sociable evening.
Giggling Squid

Starting life in the basement of their tiny fisherman’s cottage in Brighton back in 2002, Giggling Squid has grown massively over the subsequent 20 years, but have never reached further north than Nottingham. Until 2022. They’ll be bringing their “simple, rustic, fresh Thai food” to Spinningfields, in the old Carluccio site at some point in the early months of 2022.
Sugo Pasta Kitchen (Sale)

After a very successful Crowdfunding campaign at the end of 2021, Sugo have officially announced their newest restaurant offering in Sale’s Stanley Square. Bringing their unique (and utterly amazing) pasta dishes to the south Manchester suburb is a massive get for the town, and I’m sure it’ll bring people from far and wide to the area, which saw a new Food Hall arrive in 2021 and will also see Blanchflower appear in 2022.
Kitten

Another new addition to Deansgate Square, very little is known about ‘Kitten’ at this point in time, except that it’s a Japanese charcoal grill and casual izakaya restaurant, also specialising in contemporary sushi and sashimi, cocktails and live music.
Canvas

Canvas, a live music, events and entertainment to the heart of Circle Square, will provide space for the community to socialise, meet, work, eat and drink across the venue’s three distinctive areas – Canvas Kitchen, Canvas Club and Canvas Events. The Canvas Kitchen is a 100-seat ground-floor restaurant, whereas the Canvas Club lounge is a unique and affordable take on the private members club that will offer a premium day and night experience for the community at Circle Square.

Another new addition to the Circle Square development is set to be Eat17 – a name you might have noticed on the shelves of posh supermarkets for their wildly popular Bacon Jam. Starting off as a neighbourhood grocery and bistro in the up-and-coming Walthamstow Village down in London, they’ll be offering up a banging breakfast on the weekends and a modern British menu for lunch and evenings.
Mayfield Park

Set to be the city’s first new park in 100 years, we really couldn’t be more excited for Mayfield Park to open, part of the on-going £1.4bn renovation of the Mayfield area around Piccadilly Train Station. With 14 acres of new public space, plus a whole host of retail and leisure spots – this new neighbourhood should be home to many of the city’s biggest and brightest new openings as we go into 2023.
