One of the undisputed champions of Small Plates in Manchester is undoubtedly West Didsbury’s Volta, a bar and restaurant that is seemingly impossible not to love.
Inspired by the travels of the two owners, Justin & Luke AKA The Unabombers, you’ll find an impressive array of fish, meat and vegetarian small plates on offer, each one taking you to another corner of the globe in every mouthful.
Recently Volta introduced a new weekday offer, available from 1pm – 5:30pm; 3 Small Plates for just £15 – and you can pick any from their menu!
The selection is very impressive and includes Padron Peppers, Baharat Rump Steak with mojo verde and Queenie Scallops with nduja butter with salsa verde.
There’s Iberico Pork Presa served with piquillo peppers, capers and oregano, plus Volta’s legendary Lamb Shawarma with harissa and yoghut.
The Burrata, Courgette, Mint & Pistachio Dukkah is an outstadning addition, while the cheese, supplied by Crafty Cheeseman, is seasoned with spices and topped with cumin, coriander and sesame seeds to give it a bit of crunch.
You’ll find Whipped Feta mixed with yoghurt, lemon zest, seasoning, and finished with a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkling of zaatar and toasted hazelnuts, and the excellent Hispi Cabbage, which is brined overnight in salt and thyme. It’s then pan-fried and topped with miso butter, sesame seeds and a black garlic puree.
Alongside these curated dishes they also have a diverse list of wines, cocktails and craft beers for you to enjoy them with.
Oh, and you can’t forget Volta’s terrace out front – one of the best people watching spots in Didsbury, and perfect for cocktails and food when the sun is shining.
