Over the past two years, UNAGI have grown their business from strength to strength. Beginning at the start of lockdown with a fairly uncertain future, the sushi masters now have four permanent sites in Altrincham, Didsbury and Wilmslow.
What has been missing, though, is a space that’s a little closer to the city centre, as I don’t think it’s possible to have TOO many places to grab sushi and other Pan Asian delicacies.
Lucky for us, UNAGI have recently announced that they’re setting up in a car park on the edge of Green Quarter in Cheetham Hill. A mere 20 minute walk from Northern Quarter.
Asian food enthusiasts will soon be able to park up and grab their favourite dishes from the newly transformed area, complete with industrial shipping containers, a gated courtyard and outdoor seating for dining on-site.
UNAGI will also offer takeaway and collection 7 days a week starting from the end of April, meaning that the restaurant will be returning to city centre delivery platforms, too (Deliveroo, Uber Eats & Just Eat).
Their extended menu includes brand-new street snacks, more sushi rolls and halal alternatives of their most popular, wok-fried dishes.
There’ll also be an abundance of UNAGI’s famous dishes including Poke Bowls, Katsu Curries, the Bang Bang Chicken Wings and humongous Sushi Platters!
The business was founded by Ralph and Jun, who settled in Manchester in the early 00s, alongside friends Macky and AJ. Pair that with investment from successful restaurateur and chef, David Vanderhook – owner of the mini-empire consisting of Lime Bar, George Charles, The Con Club and One Central Altrincham – and it’s no wonder UNAGI have been a hit across the city.
There’s no official opening date on the brand-new, Green Quarter UNAGI just yet, but it’s sure to be a very welcome addition once it finally opens.
Make sure to keep your eyes on UNAGI’s Instagram for any updates, and we’ll see you there for a giggle over some deliciously fresh Asian food.
