A New Burma is an ongoing collaborative exhibition touring major cities around the world, amplifying the messages of artists and critical voices bravely standing up for a future inclusive of all who would call Myanmar home.
The programme is a raw, chaotic and moving series of events that will invite visitors to undertake a journey of insight into the challenges being surmounted by the brave and bold youths of Myanmar as they fight for a future free of brutal oppression by telling their stories through art and defiantly celebrating free expression.
This one-day event at The Carlton Club, Manchester will include artwork and video installations on display throughout the day, a reading of poetry from the frontlines, live painting and a feast of home-made Burmese food, drink and handicrafts available for purchase.
Some of the exhibiting artists include; Ants Are Always Busy, a photographer and videographer based in Myanmar. His vast portfolio includes portrait and reportage photographs, documentaries and more as he travels across Myanmar to capture the genuine moments during the revolution.
Summer Kites, a coder and poet will also provide spoken word during the exhibition. He moved out to Singapore for further studies in 2005 and has lived there since. With unusual combinations of lo-fi/hip-hop beats and poetry, Summer Kites portrays the tempo of revolution, nostalgia events, and people’s daily struggle amidst a coup. He started this project to express his sympathy towards the people of Myanmar who were under inhumane treatment and oppression by the military junta.
On Feb 1st 2021 the tatmadaw forces unleashed The People’s creative resistance. A New Burma shows the world that the creativity and beauty brutally suppressed by a genocidal army can’t be silenced.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 1.15pm at the Carlton Club on Sunday 4th September.
