For the first time ever, Chorlton will be launching its Pride celebrations this Saturday 17th September from 12pm – 5pm, a community-led event that celebrates and brings together LGBTQ+ people in Chorlton and beyond, including all members of the community to promote visibility in the area.
The ‘Main Event’ will be taking over St Clements Church with special events also taking place across Chorlton throughout the day and into the evening. It’s going to be a family-friendly free event with a mixture of food, drink, charities, local services and some great entertainment too.
Hosting the day will be Queen Bayard, a “force to be gawked at” singer, musician, and drag creature based in Manchester. She sings live, lip syncs like a beast, dances the house down boots, and always serves high-frequency love at the party.
Also set to be performing on the day is DJ Phillippa ‘Dancefloor’ Jarman; resident in the loft at Paradise Factory from 1995 and Homoelectric from 1998, as well as all sorts of guest spots and one-offs at brilliant nights like Suffragette City, That Amazing Thing, the Social Service and Homobloc from then until now.
There’ll also be Nigel Harrison, resident at Spirit, Queer and Essential throughout the noughties and teens, as well as top DJ at other nights in Manchester such as Bounce Therapy, Taurus, Velvet and annually at Manchester Pride.
Born and bred in Chorlton Claire Mooney is a singer-songwriter with numerous albums and international airplay to her credit, and she’ll be performing at Chorlton Pride too.
Also taking over award-winning The Edge theatre is ‘Let’s All Be Fairies‘ – a funny, risqué and often poignant cabaret celebrating the ‘out’ gay performers of the Prohibition era, ‘Pansy Craze’. That’ll be taking place on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th at 7.30pm.
There’s also set to be food and drink stalls, the Chorlton Book Festival and a Silent Disco takeover at The Carlton Club – plus much, much more.
