Taking place at The Carlton Club, Tales of Manchester will open its exhibition on the 20th of October at 7pm with a stand out line-up of some of the city’s best local artists.
Created by Emma Evans, an artist who is also behind the wine store and deli, Wandering Palate in Monton, her aim was to put together a show that celebrated the communities and vibrancy of the city.
The exhibition will feature spoken word from the likes of Romina Ramos, Louise Machen, Bryan Dunne, Lisa O’ Hare, Thirsty poet AKA Matt Concannon and Oliver James Lomax – all Greater Manchester based poets that have written pieces specially for the exhibition, which act as an inspiration for the new work Emma has created for the show.
Wanting to create more than a traditional art exhibition, Emma said: “After moving here many years ago from Leeds to study I fell in love with Manchester, the creative scene and the strong sense of Community. In creating this exhibition I have captured that sense of belonging by collaborating with other creatives to include music and spoken word.”
The opening night will also see music from record label Sprechen and a limited number of free arrival drinks courtesy Manchester Union Lager.
Emma added: “I wanted to showcase my work at the Carlton Club as it is a real community space. The creative scene in Manchester is as vibrant as ever and I want to celebrate that and encourage others to get involved and take part whenever possible.”
Emma also runs a regular Life Drawing class at Wandering Palate, as well as a range of workshops working with charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. Tales of Manchester is supported by the MancSpirit charity, a Manchester-based charity that harnesses creativity and the arts to inspire positive mental wellbeing.
Damian Carr, MancSpirit’s co-founder said: “It has been an absolute pleasure supporting this exhibition and event, having worked with Emma and those performing the spoken word, I have no doubt that everyone who visits will have an amazing time and come away inspired with a huge smile on their face.”
Tickets for the opening night are free and the exhibition will run until Thursday 17th November.
