Once the last bassy beat has rolled out of the famous Phazon sound system at the end of the May bank holiday weekend, there will be no more Sankeys indefinitely as David Vincent, the club’s founder, brings this incredible chapter of Manchester’s music culture to a fittingly climactic end.
And if Sankeys’ mantra could be encapsulated as “expect the unexpected,” they have once more done it again for the closing weekend – not only are Sasha and Todd Terry now playing special afternoon parties on Saturday and Sunday respectively, but the Basement and Bar room wall is being knocked down to make one main space for everyone to enjoy.
David explains, “Bringing everything to a close has made me think about making one big space for everyone to be in and enjoy for the closing party. So we are smashing down the booth and the wall. We will also be giving out some of the wall and booth as souvenirs for people as they leave, to take a little piece of history home with them. This means the club will be as it was back in the Sankeys Soap era, one brilliant space. To me it makes perfect sense as everything comes to an end here, everyone will be there together. And also, I am really proud that Manchester legend Sasha is playing here one more time; he is the special guest for us on Saturday afternoon. Then on Sunday it is The Hacienda guys with Todd Terry. This really is the last chance to say goodbye to the club as people know it. And don’t forget we have also got Apollonia on Saturday night and Gareth Emery on Sunday night – the whole weekend is really packed!”
Fletch from The Hacienda explains, “We have had some fantastic shows at the club over the years and we feel it’s apt that we give Sankeys the proper Madchester send off it deserves, as it takes leave of the rainy city for sunnier straits.” For the last time, The Hacienda welcomes Todd Terry back to Sankeys for a special afternoon party on Sunday May 5th, with Graeme Park, Tom Wainwright, 808 State and more.
…not only are Sasha and Todd Terry now playing special afternoon parties on Saturday and Sunday respectively, but the Basement and Bar room wall is being knocked down to make one main space for everyone to enjoy.
The sold out closing show features global techno legend and Rejected co-founder Joris Voorn, Berlin’s Desolat queen tINI, London legend and Fuse founder Enzo Siragusa and Darius Syrossian all in attendance. The club’s residents, Jozef K and Us & Them, play their final sets too during this epic session, with Bones in support. And bringing everything to a final close, there’s the after party, which takes place from midnight to 6am.
Additionally, all Sankeys Closing Party and The Sankeys Closing After Party ticket holders will receive a free ticket (30E) to Carnival at Sankeys Ibiza for any Saturday between June 8th to September 28th.
