The former Curzon cinema in Urmston is set to be converted into 42 apartments. Rayner Rowen Developments submitted proposals to convert the historic building into residential units. The cinema, which was operational from 1936 to 2008, is currently occupied by Flixton Dance Academy, which is set to close.
The building’s iconic art deco frontage will be retained and sensitively restored according to a planning statement prepared by Maddox consultancy. The rest of the building, which is not listed, will be demolished, while two parallel extensions will be added to the rear of the cinema building to house the majority of the apartments. The development, designed by Patrick Wilson Architects, promises to offer an innovative and carefully designed residential apartment complex over five floors.
