Manchester’s oldest homeless charity, Lifeshare, and Wigan-based suicide prevention charity, EPiC HOPE, are joining forces with a free public screening of the multi award-winning Manchester feature film, ‘Nobody Loves You and You Don’t Deserve to Exist’ at Leigh Film Factory. The event will take place on Thursday, 23 March from 6pm to 11pm, and aims to raise awareness of the increasing challenges faced by the working class in the region.
The film, written and directed by Brett Gregory, has been praised as ‘the best film about working-class Britain in years’ by New York’s esteemed Jacobin magazine. It presents a compelling portrayal of life in Manchester under three Conservative Prime Ministers: Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s, John Major in the 1990s, and Boris Johnson in the 2020s. The story highlights the struggles faced by working-class individuals during these periods, including the Miners Strike in the 80s and the privatisation of higher education via student debt in the 90s.

Similarly, Ellie Palma-Cass, founder of EPiC HOPE, points out the connection between the high rate of suicide in Wigan and the cost of living crisis.
