There are few places as charming as West Didsbury on a sunny afternoon, and Lapwing Lane is certainly up there with the area’s leafiest streets. It’s here we find Neighbourhood, which bills itself as an “urban speakeasy situated on a picturesque promenade”. The team are clear this is more than just a name, too, and consider their establishment to be a central player in the wider community, offering a great place to kick back and relax in the afternoon, before an after dark atmosphere takes hold as nightfalls and the party kicks in.

“By day, Neighbourhood transforms into ‘The Daily Social,’ offering breakfast, lunch, and brunch with a menu distinct from our evening offerings. Indulge in smoothie bowls, breakfast grazing boards, gourmet sausage rolls, focaccia-izzas, freshly made croissants and cakes, including treats from the renowned Manchester bakery, Gooey,” the team explain. “Then we offer late-night vibes and good times where you can bring friends, and make new ones, common values connecting over delectable eats, premium liquor, and engaging conversation in an inviting and intimate setting… We proudly showcase local suppliers and exceptional attention to detail, ensuring every bite is a testament to quality.”

Born from a desire to elevate the typical local drinking hole, Neighbourhood’s interior takes inspiration from the extensive travels of the team that set it up, while the look was created thanks to a keen eye for found and salvaged things. Aesthetically striking, the evening menu is just as impressive, offering wood-fired pizzas, seasonally-influenced cocktails, a lot of craft ales and beers and plenty of spirits besides. Other than all that, guest DJs play monthly, and live music also forms part of the mix. But, if you’d prefer to simply watch the world go by, we suggest making a beeline for the south-facing terrace where you’ll want for nothing.
