If you’re wandering through Spinningfields and you spot a mysterious stone tablet, you’ve not stumbled upon some priceless, ancient Greek antiquity.
It’s actually there to kick start the hype machine for new high-end Greek and Mediterranean restaurant project Fenix.
Due to open in November, the restaurant is the new venture from the team behind upscale Chinese spot Tattu, which has been a staple in Spinningfields since 2015, and now has spin-offs in Leeds, Birmingham, Edinburgh and London.
So to help gather up a bit of buzz, Fenix have created their own ‘rosetta stone’, complete with a mystery phrase hidden among the Greek letters carved into it.
Work out the phrase, and you can enter a contest via a QR code on the stone to either win a table at the restaurant’s VIP launch party, or book in for the place’s soft launch period and get half off your bill.
If you can’t make it to the stone itself, you can head here…
The restaurant is aiming to bring over a taste of the food scene in Mykonos in Greece, which has become a hub for foodies seeking everything from rustic farm-to-fork eating to high-end dining experiences with Michelin stars.
The kitchens will be overseen by executive head chef Ippokratis Anagnostelis and head chef Zisis Giannouras.
According to owners, Blackburn-born brothers Adam and Drew Jones, the restaurant will feature ‘breath-taking design, live sounds and cutting edge light technology’, as well as the food on the plate, which will be a ‘journey of Greek discovery’, specialising in fresh seafood and meats cooked over flames in front of diners.
The brothers also have other projects lined up – including a new Tattu site in Dubai planned for next year.
