The northern heats of the British Street Food Awards are coming to Freight Island next month.
All of the region’s best and brightest street food traders will come together to show off their skills in what is part of the biggest street food contest in the world.
Happening on 17 and 18 August, a northern champion will be crowned, with the winner then going on to the national finals in London in September.
The winner of the national awards will go on to the European Street Food Awards in Germany later this year.
Previous UK winners have included the likes of MEATliqour, BAO and Wingman.
Panel judges for the northern heats will be announced shortly, with previous luminaries like Ed Cooke, Richard Corrigan, Gizzi Erskine and Giorgio Locatelli having passed judgement in previous years.
As well as being able to sample the best street food in the north, food fans can also vote for their favourite vendor in the People’s Choice category.
It happens on 17 August from 12pm until 10pm, and then on 18 August from 12pm until 6pm.
The event coincides with Freight’s free summer music programming. Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor will be headlining on Sunday, with support from the Body Heat DJs.
