We could harp on for days, weeks, probably even months about how much Ancoats has been transformed from a once-abandoned city centre neighbourhood into a thriving and lively corner of the city centre. But we’d rather harp on about how good Cuppello’s Coffee is — one of the district’s 2024 openings, which quickly made itself known thanks to the quality of drinks, snacks, light bites and lunches. A comprehensive offering considering this spot is best described as a ‘hole in the wall’ establishment.

A micro parlour of roasted beans and fresh juices just waiting to be discovered by you and yours, if you’ve ever been to Lymm, the charming Cheshire village a few miles south of South Manchester, you might already be familiar with Cuppello’s. The family-owned business has already built a stellar reputation down there, and their expansion into our hometown makes perfect sense: the staff are bringing their extensive barista and kitchen experience, not to mention knowledge on how to run a coffee shop, to a town that can’t get enough of the stuff.

No nonsense in their approach, there’s an understated elegance to the look and feel of Cuppello’s, with its clean, whitewash walls, smartly-framed newspaper cuttings, and trendy display of baseball hats. As you’d hope, though, this one is really all about what’s on the menu. And the coffee is exceptional, as is the OJ which they squeeze right there in front of you. There are also some excellent fresh bakes on offer, courtesy of the good people at The Vakery, and an ever-changing range of (mostly) healthy brunch options just in case you need something a bit more substantial. All run by a team that radiate passion and care, if you’re looking for an informal and intimate option to refuel by day, this might be the place.
