An immersive screening of iconic British film Bend It Like Beckham is coming to Stretford town centre next month. Hosted by feminist collective Girl Gang Manchester, the screening will take place as part of a wider programme of activities during the day, exploring friendship, women in sport and South Asian culture.
Marking Girl Gang Manchester’s first screening event in six years, it will take place from 7-9pm in Stretford Mall, which will open exclusively for the event after hours.
The programme of activities includes a panel discussion on the representation of women, non-binary people and South Asian identities in sport, chaired by visual artist and football fanatic Alina Akbar. There will also be football anthem writing workshops with local musician Nishla Smith, a pop-up penalty shoot out, Bollywood dance session, a Chai and Chat space, henna from Attiya Designs and loads more.
