As far as days in the wine calendar go, Beaujolais Nouveau is up there with the biggest. Celebrated on the third Thursday of November, it marks the day that that the region of Beaujolais in the east of France releases its new harvest of Gamay wine, 65 million bottles of which will be consumed around the world over the course of the year.
Luckily, loads of excellent Manchester wine spots are holding events to celebrate the fruity stuff, and here we’ve rounded up the best.
Beaujolais Nouveau at The Wandering Palate
Beaujolais Nouveau is back on Thursday 21 November and The Wandering Palate in Eccles are celebrating, naturally. Paris cafe culture comes to Monton, where you can try new release Beaujolais pouring all day with brie and bites.
Beaujolais Nouveau Gamay Party at Flawd
Flawd at New Islington Marina celebrates Beaujolais Nouveau Day on Thursday 21 November. They will toast to the new vintage and take the opportunity to pour a variety of Gamay expressions from Beaujolais and beyond. DJ Schuttle will provide the soundtrack.
Beaujolais Nouveau Day at Medlock Canteen
Beaujolais Nouveau Day comes from the French region of Beaujolais, celebrated every third Thursday in November to toast the new wine harvest. Back in the day, growers would gather for a Beaujolais breakfast to mark the end of the season. Medlock Canteen have taken the premise, and added breakfast, naturally. On Thursday 21 November you can enjoy Medlock’s outstanding fry up, paired with a glass of Beaujolais, for £16.
Beaujolais Nouveau at Ad Hoc
Ad Hoc join in the celebrations of the first drops of the Beaujolais Nouveau harvest in 2024. Beaujolais Nouveau is a fun and fruity vin de primeur, fermented just a few weeks before being released for sale on the third Thursday of November. Winemakers famously race to get the first bottles to tables across the globe. Head down on Thursday 21 November where they will be pouring from midday.
Stretford Canteen Celebrates Beaujolais Nouveau
Stretford Canteen are celebrating one of the biggest nights in the wine calendar, with the chance to sample some young French wines alongside a carefully curated food menu. There will be a very special three course menu at £45 per person with a optional wine pairings, or a chance to sample by the glass. This is always an incredibly popular night at Stretford Canteen, so pre-booking and pre-payment is required.
Inaugural Ancoats Wine Club Meeting at Elnecot
Elnecot host the very first edition of the Ancoats Wine Club on Thursday 21 November. Marking Beaujolais Nouveau Day, the focus will be on Beaujolais, but not just the Nouveau variety. During the session, guests will be lead by Chef Michael Clay and taste five different glasses from the region, discuss, learn, play games and take part in quizzes (with prizes too!)
