MFDF Award-nominated food, drink and retail concept Hatch present the latest in their remarkable, diverse event programme as they host the premiere of a brand-new show “Crøwoman” by acclaimed poet, Sophie McKeand.
Sophie McKeand is an award-winning poet from North Wales who until recently held the annual prestigious title of the Young People’s Laureate Wales. Her poetry weaves together language, sound, myth and field recordings in order to reflect a deep, spiritual and political connection to the land.
Last year Sophie and her partner sold 95% of their belongings and moved into a van to embrace a European, nomadic, minimalist lifestyle.
Her new work crøwoman is inspired by these adventures. It is the story of ‘crøwoman’ who returns from the underworld with an alphabet-choked throat & prophecy-filled wings.
From dark beginnings, crøwoman maps spoken word, myth, field recordings & dystopian loops across futuristic landscapes; folds fake news into white noise; reveals truth.
The performance will take place in the Hatch courtyard, is free to attend, and will be followed by a set from legendary Manchester DJ, Rob Bright.
Rob (The Guv’nor) Bright has spent over 25 years at the ‘sharp end’ of DJ life. As a key part of the legendary club night Bugged Out! he helped turn a Manchester club into a truly internationally acclaimed institution, forming one of the great resident teams of the time with James Holroyd.
Rob was also a regular at Manchester’s seminal Electric Chair night and their warehouse party offshoot, Electric Souls. Rarely seen in nightclubs these days, Rob’s become a summer festival favourite in recent years, and can still be heard regularly at many other events across the land.
Expect beautiful street food from award-nominated operators (think chicken burgers, vegan chicken, Filipino feasting menus, Pan Asian delight and Sicilian street food); craft beer and (hopefully!) glorious sunshine alongside extraordinary performances and great music, all in the city’s finest summer hang out space.
