A night of fine dining at The Lowry to celebrate Salford Food and Drink Festival and the arrival of new Executive Head Chef, Oliver Thomas
Thursday 15 September 2011
Oliver joins The Lowry at the perfect time to showcase the array of local produce he is so passionate about as September marks the start of Salford Food and Drink Festival.
For this special evening Oliver has created a five course menu of the best of modern British cuisine, combining his favourite seasonal ingredients with the straightforward approach to cooking which has become The Lowry Restaurant’s signature style.
He says: “I believe when you have such great ingredients available they should be allowed to speak for themselves. At The Lowry we adopt a very simple approach to our cooking and really let the quality of the produce shine through”
The evening will begin at 7.15pm with canapés and a glass of Champagne in The Lowry Galleries, followed by the stunning waterside setting of The Lowry Restaurant where wine expert, Michael Gibson, will talk diners through the wines served with each course.
Oliver says, “The Lowry has become one of Salford’s most iconic buildings, I am extremely excited to take up the challenge of putting the venue on the map as one of the City’s premiere food destinations.”
Oliver has built over a decade of experience climbing the ranks, from Chef de Partie to Executive Head Chef, in a selection of Manchester’s most prestigious venues including The Lowry Hotel where he was a member of the 2001 opening team for Marco Pierre White’s restaurant, The River Room.
Tony Smith, Commercial Director at The Lowry, says: “We are very excited to welcome Oliver. His culinary skill and experience, combined with his energy, creativity and flair makes him the perfect candidate to take The Lowry’s dining experience to another level.”
