Canines Take To The Catwalk at Manchester’s First Miniature Dog Show
If you know your Chihuahuas from your Shih-Tzus and your Pomeranians from your Papillons, the Miniature Dog Show on The Avenue, Spinningfields on 22nd October will be the perfect place to spend a Saturday afternoon.
In association with Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Homes, the Miniature Dog Show will see Manchester’s most beloved miniatures compete in a number of categories, including: Best Dressed Dogwalk, Best In Theme: Legally Blonde, Well Preened Pooch, Most Mischievous Miniature, Show Stopping Trickster and Best In Show.
In partnership with Legally Blonde: The Musical which is showing at The Opera House, a special guest from the successful show will judge the ‘Best in Theme: Legally Blonde’ category at 12pm.
To enter their prized pooch for the Dog Show, owners need to register their dogs at The Oast House event space (in between Flannels and AllSaints on The Avenue) at 11am on the 22nd. It costs £2 per category to enter and dogs can be entered into as few or as many categories as you like.
There will be a multitude of prizes available for the winners, including a Mulberry Dog Coat and a Deluxe Pamper Package from Barking Barbers. Free preen and primp sessions will be available from Barking Barbers on the day.
Pooches with star quality may even get a chance to make it into the movies, with Spinningfields hoping to make a viral film over the next few months which requires a number of miniature dogs as cast members.
Fran Goddard, Head of Communication and Events at Spinningfields, said; “We were inspired by Legally Blonde coming to The Opera House, and felt with the popularity of toy breeds that a Miniature Dog Show would be a huge success. The Avenue, Manchester’s luxury fashion quarter, is the perfect place to host this, as toy dog owners are renowned for being stylish! At the same time it gives us the opportunity to support a very worthy charity, Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Homes.
“We’d encourage all owners of miniature breeds to come down and join in. No previous show experience is necessary, the event will be one for everyone to enjoy and hopefully win a few prizes.”
All money raised through entries will go to Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Home. The charity takes in and cares for over 7,000 dogs every year, many of which are never reclaimed by their owners and require a great degree of emotional and physical support during their stay. The Homes are always looking for caring foster and adoptive homes for its dogs and often have over 250 dogs waiting to find loving owners.
