A fireworks display and an enchanting ‘fire garden’ will be coming to Freight Island and Mayfield Park next month for the bonfire night weekend.

It’ll happen on Saturday 4 November and Sunday 5 November, taking over the whole of Mayfield Park’s 6.5 acres with fire installations.

Outdoor art installation specialists Walk The Plank are devising the fire garden, with hand-crafted fire sculptures arranged around the park.

Visitors will be invited to explore ‘flame-lined paths amongst copper flowers that breathe fire, intricately carved flaming flower boxes, and scorching sculptural trees’.

There will be three ticketed visiting sessions, two on the Saturday and one on Sunday, with all three concluding with a huge firework display at the end above Mayfield Park and Freight Island.

The award-winning Walk The Plank, which is behind the installation, has previously created immersive attractions for the European Capital of Culture celebrations in Liverpool 2008, Turku and Paphos, as well as festivals all around the world.

Sessions on Saturday happen at 5.30pm and again at 7.30pm, and then at 6pm on Sunday. Tickets are £12 for adults, £8 for kids aged 3 to 16, and free for under twos. Family tickets for two adults and two kids, for £35.

Before or after the display, you can head to Freight Island to indulge in the likes of Burgerism, Voodoo Ray’s pizza, Lazy Tony’s Lasagnaria or some craft beers at the Freight Tap Room.
