Cibus, the roundly-loved regional Italian restaurant in Levenshulme, has been named the Best Local Restaurant in the North West by the prestigious Good Food Guide.

The guide called it ‘a beacon of hospitality’, while its owners said they were ‘overwhelmed with joy’ at the accolade.

Five Manchester restaurants have made it onto the list – Ancoats favourite the Edinburgh Castle, Higher Ground, Another Hand and The Spärrows, which took the regional title in 2023.

The Guide’s anonymous inspector who assessed Cibus for the award noted: “At first glance the menu might seem a conventional and familiar list of pizza and pasta but there are daily and seasonal changes, intriguing regional dishes from North to South of the peninsula, and a standard of cooking, sourcing and service that would shame many a fancier joint.”

Chloë Hamilton, co-editor of The Good Food Guide, said: “What came up time and time again in the nominations was how, whether a regular or first-timer, you’re made to feel like an old friend.

“It’s a beacon of hospitality in Levenshulme — the type of place we all wished we had on our doorstep.”

Giorgio Fontana and Marco Bracchitta, co-owners of Cibus, added: “We are thrilled and humbled by the news that Cibus has been voted the Best Local Restaurant in the North West! It is a huge honour, and we are overwhelmed with joy.

“Thank you to all of our supporters. We feel loved and embraced by the community around us, and we reciprocate that with our love and passion in what we do here at Cibus. This recognition is a massive burst of morale for the Cibus team.

“We are like family, and we work hard together to provide a great experience for our guests. Our hard work has paid off.”

60,000 votes were cast this year, with the Guide’s team visiting each restaurant nominated anonymously to decide the 100 Best Local Restaurants list.

Other local spots to get a listing include Bombay to Mumbai in Bramhall, Lily’s in Ashton, and recently opened The Pearl in Prestwich.
