Nobu – the restaurant and hotel brand co-owned by Robert DeNiro – is coming the Manchester.

The Nobu hotel will be part of the new 76-storey skyscraper – Manchester’s tallest – between Deansgate Locks and Manchester Central, and will feature a high-end restaurant, 160-bed five star hotel and 452 luxury branded ‘residences’.

Nobu has 36 luxury hotels around the world in cities like Las Vegas, Barcelona, Ibiza and Doha. The 37th will be located in Manchester’s Viadux 2 tower.

Nobu Manchester will feature a hotel, the brand’s third in the UK and first outside London, and the UK’s first Nobu branded ‘residences’.

Viadux 2 will dwarf other city centre skyscrapers.

The development aims to bring ‘luxury hospitality and world-class dining to the heart of the city’, according to the team.

The tower has been designed by SimpsonHaugh Architects, who also designed the nearby Beetham Tower, Manchester’s first skyscraper.

The announcement follows a revised plan for the tower by developers Salboy, who first put plans forward in April of last year, which initially did not feature a hotel. The plans were reworked after working with the global hotel operator, and have since been approved.

“We are proud to include Manchester in our global collection, with its vibrant culture and growing global status,” said Trevor Horwell, chief executive of Nobu Hospitality.

“Having grown up in the area, I am personally immensely proud of this project in a city that continues its evolution as a global destination for luxury hospitality. Manchester is home to world-class developments, a thriving culinary scene, and a growing demand for high-end lifestyle experiences,” he added.

Viadux 2 is scheduled for completion in 2031.
