Manchester has scooped five nominations in the 2024 Gaydio Pride Awards.
People, organisations and venues from across the borough have all been shortlisted for next year’s awards, which will take place at a glitzy ceremony on Friday 16 February at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel.
The awards seek to recognise and celebrate the efforts made to improve LGBTQ+ lives in the UK, with a particular focus on regional and grassroots efforts for 2024.
Two Manchester institutions have been nominated in the Venue or Event of the Year category – queer rave disco legends Your Dad Sells Avon, who recently appeared at Homobloc, go up against Vanilla bar on Canal Street in the group.
Elsewhere, Lucky Roy Singh bags a nomination for LGBTQ Influencer of the Year with Boohoo whilst the Co-op Respect Network represents Manchester in the Pride Network of the Year category.
Newly-formed inclusive rugby club Transmanian Devils, who welcome players from the trans and LGBTQ+ community, compete with Cardiff Lions and Keighley Cougars for the Club or Sports Team of the Year gong.
All Gaydio Pride Award nominees will enjoy an evening of celebration, live music and performances, which will be shared on air shortly after.
The 2023 ceremony, hosted by Gaydio’s breakfast show presenters Paris and Dave, saw a performance from chart-topping artist Raye, a DJ set from Sigala and a show-stopping performance from Danny Beard, winner of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK.
