Stalybridge is set to be the latest Greater Manchester spot to enjoy the food hall treatment.
The Tameside town’s former Palace Cinema is set to be transformed into an event space and food hall.
Monopoly Events, the firm also behind the resurrection of Ashton-under-Lyne’s Metro Majestic cinema, have announced the plans for the building to become an events and hospitality hotspot.
The announcement comes after many calls for Stalybridge’s Civic Hall to also be converted into a similar market set-up, to follow in the footsteps of Altrincham, Sale and more recently Bolton.
In a statement, it said: “We will be ripping out the venue in the New Year and we will be converting The Palace into a multi-purpose event space and food hall.
“The venue will cater for live music events, stage shows, screenings, dance events, and will feature a craft ale bar offering and also multiple internal, independent food catering units.”
The historic building on Market Street was originally opened as the Empire Picture Palace in 1913, before being re-named as the Palace Cinema.
Later, it was taken over by an independent operator, but closed its doors in August 2003 before being converted into a nightclub in 2004.
Since then, it has been known as Rififi and Amber Lounge before becoming Khaleasi & The Platinum Lounge.
