Manchester‘s oldest Community Arts Festival will celebrate 20 years this year by launching an exciting month-long celebration from April 29th to May 29th 2022.
Artists, musicians, illustrators, performers, comedians and more will take to the stages at venues such as Chorlton Book Shop, The Carlton Club, The Font, Northstar Deli and Benito Lounge for a whole month of local talent and exciting opportunities.
Established in 2002 and now entirely voluntary, non-profit and community driven, Chorlton Arts Festival 2022 is free and open to anyone of any age and background. In truly inclusive Manchester tradition, ‘everyone is an artist’ at Chorlton Arts Festival.
From Jubilee flags by primary school children to paintings by Seniors in their 80s, the festival truly has it all and embraces amateurs to professionals and everything in between!
A volunteer committee of Chorlton residents, Chaired by retired Community Psychologist, Carolyn Kagan and Artist, Peter Topping steered CAF 2022 through the storms of Covid.
Carolyn said: “We’ve had a wonderful time working with local people, bringing another Festival to Chorlton, though it’s not been all easy sailing. 2020 was a virtual festival which received international acclaim, but 2021 was beset by uncertainty with local venues affected by Covid-related closures at the very last minute!
“However, with our Fantastic Local Patrons like Jackie Kay, Stephen Raw, Lip Service, Badly Drawn Boy and Jason Manford, as well as 30 volunteers, business sponsors, local venues, schools and artists, 2022 will be the most memorable ever. Building on the organisers hard work over the last 20 years.”
Artistic Director Peter Topping said: “Take a look at our programme on the website. There’s so much more to see and do than ever before – it is the best ever. There’s something for everyone…Chorlton residents and traders have again done us proud with incredible talent, energy, creativity and fun. We would love to see you all come and support them and your community”.
The CAF2022 Festival will launch on Friday 29th April at South West Manchester Cricket Club by Jeff Smith, MP.
