Award-winning graphic designer, author and artist Micah Purnell will present a free exhibition this December.
The retrospective showcase will celebrate ten years of his celebrated Add-Art project, bringing indoors over 30 pieces from the last decade.
Called Street Eyes, it will feature global art and design on purpose-built sites across Manchester, displaying some of the biggest names in art, from the worlds of illustration, typography and photography.
Work from the likes of Stanley Chow, Anthony Burril, Gemma O’Brien, Dave Towers and photographers Anna Devis and Daniel Rueda will be on show.
Purnell has been curating outdoor print projects with a mission to provide a public canvas to support artists and help to offer an uplifting visual narrative for passersby. Over the last 10 years, the project has represented 11 countries and supported over 60 artists.
On the project, he said: “The ethos is simple, offer a cheery tone to people’s days, using the humour, beauty and humanity found in the revealing, curious and clever work of artists and designers who see life in illuminating ways.”
The forthcoming Street Eyes show will also celebrate the construction of Add Art’s latest gallery and three newly installed exhibits including Subverting The Rainbow at Chatham Mill, Al Maser’s Compass at Whitworth Park and David Towers’ Nope at the Mustard Tree in Ancoats.
Purnell added: “Add Art’s values are about high quality, local and global art, of varying disciplines, mostly hopeful visuals, amidst the difficulty of day to day life.
“The works are gentle, friendly and fun, they may say everything, and nothing at all, with a sprinkling of social critique and a good dose of wit and charm.”
Street Eyes will also welcome innovative music ensemble Epiphany, who will respond to the artworks with live performances, as well as playing a number of sound sketches for attendees.
Most of the artworks on show will be available to buy on the night to support and continue the work of providing a canvas for artists and free art city dwellers.
The free exhibition by Micah Purnell takes place at Chatham Mill for one night only on Tuesday 5 December from 6pm and a limited number of tickets are available here.
