The Science and Industry Museum is set to host the world premiere of the innovative exhibition, Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You, inspired by the popular CBBC children’s TV series. Developed in collaboration with the BBC and 141 Productions, part of All3Media’s Objective Media Group, this exhibition offers a unique and engaging exploration of the human digestive system.
Visitors will join Dr Chris, Dr Xand, and Dr Ronx on an educational mission delving into the journey food takes as it passes through the body. This immersive experience enables participants to gain an in-depth understanding of the complex processes that occur within our bodies as they metaphorically traverse Dr Xand’s digestive system.
The exhibition offers insight into the functions of various organs involved in digestion through a range of interactive activities. Guests will learn about the science behind breaking down food, the importance of good bacteria in protecting the body, and the process by which the body moves waste through the large intestine. The exhibition also showcases real-life stories of young people living with digestive conditions, current medical treatments, and cutting-edge technology, such as Larry the Vomiting Robot, which has aided scientists in understanding the distribution of norovirus particles.
In order to accommodate diverse audiences, Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You features a selection of tailored sessions. Relaxed sessions cater to those who prefer a sensory-friendly environment, with adjusted sound levels and additional sensory activities led by museum Explainers. Experitots sessions are designed for families with children under five, providing an opportunity to explore the exhibition with support from the Explainer team and engage in age-appropriate activities.
The world premiere of Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You is a noteworthy event for both fans of the TV series and those interested in discovering more about the human body in an engaging, interactive setting.
