An exciting new initiative is launching in Manchester this summer, just in time for the school holidays.
Chetham’s School of Music, the UK’s biggest specialist music school, has teamed up with local charity Wood Street Mission on Make Some Noise, to offer free music workshops to children this summer.
The new project is aimed at 11-15 year olds and will include sessions on songwriting, beatboxing, singing, DJing and music journalism. The course will take place at The Stoller Hall, part of the historic music school’s city centre location.
Each workshop will be led by experienced, professional musicians from across the UK, with Wood Street Mission’s trained staff on-hand to support participants’ confidence. The Manchester College will also be involved, giving children the chance to work with tutors and students.
The project has been backed by the Manchester office of national law firm Mills & Reeve as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility fund. Make Some Noise will run for the next three years, keeping children entertained and teaching them valuable new skills.
Des Lynch, of the Wood Street Mission, said: “The tangible aspect of our work is vital, but we firmly believe that every child deserves to have happy childhood memories and experience activities that due to their personal circumstances, they will not otherwise have.
“To be able to form partnerships with organisations such as Chetham’s School of Music and Mills & Reeve means that local children will get to enjoy a summer of fun and creativity as well as forming lasting friendships.”
Participants for the Make Some Noise project will be invited to apply through Wood Street Mission.
