The Manchester Film Festival arrives in town next month

There's the premiere of the new Lee Tamahori movie and an appearance from Fool Me Once's Richard Armitage

The 2024 Manchester Film Festival rolls into town next month, with a host of international films on the programme.

It will boast the premiere of Die Another Day and Once Were Warriors director Lee Tamahori’s The Convert.

Starring Guy Pearce, it tells the story of a priest with a violent past who arrives at a British settlement amid clashes between Maori tribes in New Zealand in the 1830s.

The movie will open this year’s event, while closing out the festival will be Rose Glass’s film Love Lies Bleeding, starring Kirsten Stewart, Katy O’Brian and Ed Harris.

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey’s directorial debut The Trap will be screening, while The Hobbit and Fool Me Once star Richard Armitage will be appearing at the festival to discuss his latest role in The Boy In The Woods.

He’ll take part in a Q&A session after the screening on 24 March.

Also premiering at the festival will be films including Of God’s Men, Straight Through Crew, The Can and Die Before You Die, while among the documentary section will be We Dare To Dream, the latest film from Oscar-nominated director Waad Al-Kateab, which tells the story of refugee athletes competing for a place in the 2020 Olympic.

Fans of classic movies will also be able to take in a restored print of the 1978 version of The 39 Steps starring Robert Powell.

The tenth Manchester Film festival, 45 films will be screened in total, with over 100 short films, including three sessions of North West Shorts showcasing the work of local talent, all taking place at the Odeon Great Northern.
