Manchester Open originally launched at HOME in 2020 and was the first region-wide event of its type to welcome entries from people of any background and level of experience, including established professionals, new and emerging talent, enthusiastic amateurs, and first-time artists.
The exhibition celebrates the creativity of the city, with the gallery’s walls plastered with work from 400+ Manchester residents, selected by a panel consisting of art experts and community representatives.
With more than 33,000 visitors enjoying 543 artworks by hundreds of artists, the award-winning biannual exhibition is back and has received an outstanding 2,271 artwork entries.
From January 24th to March 27th 2022, you can expect to see a range of high-quality, different artistic styles and inspirational work being created across Greater Manchester.
Throughout the exhibition, HOME will also host workshops, DJs, poetry classes, live performances and socials that are open to everyone interested in art and looking to establish their career.
It will take place in the main gallery at HOME, Manchester’s centre for international contemporary art, theatre and film.
HOME is in the heart of the city centre and has become a hub of creativity since opening in 2015. The venue has welcomed over 2.9 million visitors to see thrilling theatre and dance shows, experience great independent films from across the world in its 5 cinemas and dive into the new art in its galleries.
HOME’s ambition is to push the boundaries of form and technology, to experiment, have fun, take risks and share great new art with the widest possible audience.
It has some pretty great patrons, too including; Danny Boyle, actress Suranne Jones, playwright and poet Jackie Kay CBE, artists Rosa Barba and Phil Collins, filmmaker Asif Kapadia, and actress and author Meera Syal CBE.
