Famous comedians and friends turned out to celebrate the Frog and Bucket’s 20th Anniversary on Wednesday (16th April 2014) and show their love for this Manchester institution.
Dave Perkin opened The Little Frog in 1994 and, since then he’s established The Frog and Bucket and his other nine venues (stretching from Wigan to Blackpool) as some of the the North’s premiere comedy venues. Talent ranging from Steve Coogan, John Bishop and Justin Moorhouse have all graced the stage and gone on to have huge national and international success.
On the night we were treated to performances from some of the faces who have made the club famous over the years. Highlights included: Smug Roberts, famous for appearing in 24 hour Party People and everything Peter kay has ever made, gave us a slice of the local anecdotal humour he is famous for. Kiri Pritchard Mclean who worked at the club and has gone on to perform on the BBC does likeable girl-next-door type observational comedy very, very well. Tony Burgess who won the prestigious North West Comedian Of The Year and has written on BBC 3’s Ideal, described by the times as, ‘The Clown Prince of Manchester scallies…’, I really don’t think I can put it any better than that. Mick Ferry who has appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow performed with a quick witted surrealist edge that kept the crowd very much entertained.
All in all, you can’t loose if you go to the Frog and Bucket on a night out, as well as putting on the national tours of the lesser know but arguably better touring comedians of the UK, it is also the place to discover the talent of tomorrow.
