Black Dog Ballroom has announced that it is to close.
The NQ institution, located in the Afflecks building on the corner of Church Street in the city centre, has been closed this week, with boards covering up the entrance.
After some speculation, the bar has now officially confirmed its full closure, with a message on its website reading: “Black Dog Ballroom is now closed.”
A go-to party location since opening in 2009, Black Dog’s ‘NYC-style’ bar was famed for its dance floor, pool tables and food and drinks menu, which boasted regular happy hour deals.
It was also known – or crucially not known – for its ultra-secret bar, Sherlock’s, which was only open to hospitality workers.
Whilst the news of the closure hasn’t yet been shared on Black Dog’s social channels, the venue’s kitchen residents Smash & Dash burgers announced it would soon be moving to Black Dog’s sister venue Dog Bowl, which remains open.
The last post on Black Dog’s Instagram page was from 13 December, encouraging people to take a ‘respite from the worst place on earth (Market Street)’ and enjoy their happy hour deals.
It marks the latest in a rash of restaurant and bar closures across Greater Manchester, with Simon Rimmer’s Didsbury restaurant Greens announcing it was closing its doors after 33 years last week.
