Legendary Manchester brewery Cloudwater plan to bring their internationally-acclaimed, fresh beers to the ground floor of Minshull House, a former Victorian shipping warehouse at Kampus.

It’ll feature a communal beer hall; 3°c cold store and beer tap wall; full kitchen serving local and seasonal food; and flexible event spaces. Punters will also be able to soak up the summer sun, with outdoor seating in the Kampus garden and a new square on Chorlton Street.

The brewery is the latest big name to join Kampus which, with the likes of Nell’s, General Store, Beeswing, Great North Pie and Pollen also signed up, is fast becoming a haven for some of Manchester’s most-loved indies.

From brewing their first beers on Valentine’s Day in 2015, Cloudwater have grown into a true Manchester treasure, creating hundreds of evolving and seasonal beers and gaining a loyal army of followers. In 2020, they brewed the equivalent of over a million pints.

Whilst keeping their cards close to the chest on the details of what’s in store for Kampus, the Cloudwater team are planning a relaxed, all-day hangout perfect for a spot of work or casual lunch transforming in the evening to a go-to social spot with dining, parties and events.

Paul Jones, co-founder of Cloudwater, said:

“We’re looking forward to joining the community at Kampus, which already includes a number of outstanding independent operators who are a major credit to our city. Manchester means so much to us – far more than simply acting as our home city, it provides us with inspiration, feeds our creative energy and informs our values.”

“So we’re proud to be able to open another venue in the city, especially one neighbouring Canal Street, which has long been a vital part of the city’s nightlife.”

Cloudwater at Kampus will become the brewery’ biggest location to date, complementing their existing tap room in London and the Sadler’s Cat pub and Unit 9 tap room in Manchester.

Adam Higgins at Capital&Centric, said:

“Cloudwater are a perfect fit for us … a homegrown indie businesses who’ve made good with their world-class beers, helping put Manchester brewing on the map. It’s amazing that they’ve chosen Kampus for their biggest venture yet and we can’t wait to see what they will deliver. Every neighbourhood needs a good boozer and we just know it’ll be one of the friendliest, most inviting places in the city to kick back and enjoy a beer in the garden.”

Kampus, is a vibrant new neighbourhood built around a garden developed by Capital&Centric and HBD. Its collection of old and new buildings offers a melting pot of architectural styles and builds on a rich cultural heritage, making use of historic buildings that lay derelict for years, right next to the famous Canal Street in Manchester’s Gay Village and just minutes from Piccadilly Station.

The neighbourhood is alive with events and will be home to local independent bars, restaurants, cafés and retail from brands.

Residents can choose from one and two bedroom apartments in the beautiful red-brick new buildings North and South Block, refurbished 1960s brutalist tower called The Stack or two Victorian shipping warehouses, Minto & Turner and Minshull House.
