Set to open on Friday 3rd May, the minds behind established bars Stage and Radio and Folk & Soul in the NQ have bought the old Grafene site on King Street, looking to take all of the things that make a good boozer and then just keep adding even more on top.
So what actually makes a good boozer? Well, the simplest answer is – good food, knowledgeable staff, great surroundings and of course – the best beers known to humanity.
With 26 taps, an open cellar and a stylish, stripped back interior, Mash Tun will look to offer an unprecedented wealth of beers and ales in the city, alongside some stunning classic British food.
Taking inspiration from the UK’s extensive brewing history, beer is at the forefront of Mash Tun’s whole concept, and they’re certainly not pulling any punches with the golden stuff.
Not only will they be brewing their own craft beers, they’ll also offer one of the city’s largest selections of beers from local breweries, alongside the usual selection of wine, spirits and cocktails of course.
On hand to assist with the beers will be Scott Martin, Head Brewer and a man that has amassed a wealth of brewing knowledge, experience and an extensive ‘recipe book’ that’s been perfected over the years.
Alongside the drinks will be an extensive menu of British classics designed by Head Chef Nick Moore, someone who’s trained under two Michelin star chefs in London; Aggi Sverisson at Texture and Richard Corrigan at Corrigans in Mayfair.
The plan is to take all of the well-known classics to a whole new level, with an extensive Sausage & Mash menu offering the likes of confit garlic black pepper and sage pork sausages with chargrilled red onion, blue cheese mash and a roasted shallot gravy.
On top of this they’ll also be supplying their own artisanal bread from their very own bakery – Fundamentum in Mayfield.
Mash Tun will be open throughout brunch, lunch and the evening so you can expect an exciting and sophisticated menu at any time of the day alongside your drinks.
Finally, if all that wasn’t enough for you, Mash Tun will be offering a packed calendar of events throughout the week, including live music from Thursday to Saturday until 4am and a day of live jazz on Sunday to go alongside your sumptuous roast dinner.
