This is the first look at Louis, the new Spinningfields restaurant from the team behind Tattu and Fenix, which aims to recreate the ring-a-ding-ding of the classic, Italian-American late night eateries of New York.

The dinner-only restaurant and bar will come complete with late night cabaret, quintessential Italian-American bistro dishes and fine cocktails – but it will also have to live long in the memory.

Taking pictures in the new spot will be forbidden, with stickers being applied to your phone cameras on the way in, the emphasis being ‘on lived-experience over content creation’.

The menu will be created by executive chef Ippokratis Anagnostelis, who was behind the menu at Fenix, and Italian chef Matteo D’Elia, who has worked at London restaurants Il Gattopardo and Bacchanalia.

Dishes on the menu will range from calamari fritti and breaded green lip mussels to a veal chop, a tomahawk steak and a Caesar salad made at the table, as well as a classic osso buco.

Meanwhile, fresh pasta will be made at a dedicated pasta workshop in the kitchen, ranging from Rigatoni Alla Vodka to a Tagliatelle Bolognese.

At the bar, there will be a tight, 12-drink cocktail menu, including a Bloody Maria, a classic Manhattan, and a ‘PB&J Old Fashioned’.

Designed by Fabled Studio, the design house behind the likes of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Knightsbridge, Dinner By Heston Blumethal and Noble Rot in Soho, the inside will featured tiered seating around a central stage area, where there will be music and live entertainment every night, from soul singers to jazz quartets to old school swing bands.

The interior will make liberal use of tactile materials like velvet and marble, with low lighting and private, sectioned off areas concealed with cafe curtains.

On the walls, the restaurant will boast over £1 million in modern art pieces, with works from Marco Battaglini, Alec Monopoly, Brainwash and Ted Todd.

Louis will operate on a reservations-only basis, with bookings live now…

The restaurant opens on 13 September.

We’ve got 4 tables to the invite-only preview dinner on Wednesday 11 September to give away, before they open their doors to the public.
