Who knew that keeping tiramisu in a drawer was such a great idea?

Onda, the pasta pop-up that has taken residence in Ancoats bar the New Cross, revealed its ingenious way of storing its tiramisu for easy access – in a refrigerated drawer – over the weekend.

It rapidly went viral, with more than 23 million – yes, million – views across their social media channels. It grabbed a staggering 17.3 million views on TikTok alone, chef Sam Astley-Dean innocuously noting: “The tiramisu drawer we use to keep things running smoothly.”

The video shows him opening the drawer and scooping out a generous lump of the Italian dessert onto a plate.

They later added: “We’ve got a tiramisu drawer so we can scoop to order when it’s busy in service. People seem pretty keen on having one in their bedside table, we’re looking into it.”

It’s since drawn in over 4,500 comments and well over 500,000 likes, and – helping it go viral – a share from Oppenheimer and Midsomer actor Florence Pugh, who has a pretty sturdy nine million followers herself.

“This is literally my heaven,” she noted, sharing it to her Instagram stories.

Sam launched Onda at the Exhibition food hall and bar earlier this year, before shifting it to the New Cross over the summer.

The menu takes in a host of classic pasta recipes, with the noodles and gnocchi being made fresh daily and prepped to order.

It’s not the first time that the folk behind the project have had a viral hit on their hands. Co-owners Jake Ansbro and Paddy Brown are also behind Gooey – which got some TikTok heat earlier this year when R&B icon Lizzo raved about their vegan tofu sandwich, prior to a show at the AO Arena.
