Everyone thinks their chippy is the best chippy in the world, but this Greater Manchester fish and chip shop is officially one of the best in the country… and could be crowned the best in the UK.

Chips @ No.8 in Prestwich has made it to the Top 20 finalists for the Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year award at the prestigious annual National Fish & Chips Awards 2024.

The takeaway in Bury is famous for both its delicious food offering as well as its huge mural of Mark E. Smith from The Fall on the outside of the shop.

The shop on Clifton Road already has a number of awards to its name, and even made it to the final 20 of last year’s National Fish and Chip Awards, but this year they hope to do even better.

Fellow Greater Manchester takeaway the Town Street Fryer in Marple Bridge joined Chips @ No 8 in the top 40, but failed to make it to the top 20 shortlist.

The Prestwich chippy, owned by Dan Edwards, is up against stiff competition.

Other eateries in the running this year include Westend Fish and Chips in Oswaldtwistle, Zero Plus Fish & Chips in Cardiff, Marina Fish & Chips in Skegness and Bristol’s Bishopston Fish and Chips.

The winner will be announced at the grand ceremony, hosted by the National Federation of Fish Friers, in February.
