The legendary Hip Hop Chip Shop is opening a new location right in the city centre.
The fish slingers, famed for both the quality of their frying and their love for hip hop-based puns, will be setting up at New Century.
They’ll be serving up at the food hall and music venue from Friday 10 November, alongside the likes of Banh Vi, The Spice Yard, Koi Sushi, Tallow and Wild by Ply.
Said co-founder Jonathan ‘Ozzie’ Oswald: “We’re buzzing to be opening our third Manchester location in New Century’s kitchens on 10th November, and to join all of the other traders knockin’ out some top quality food.
“It’s an honour to be part of this iconic venue steeped in cultural history which aligns with our love for music. We can’t wait to cook some hearty meals for anyone who comes to pay us a visit. Catch you all soon.”
Starting as a mobile van in 2014, blasting out classic hip hop while frying up a storm, founders Ozzie, Luke and Holly opened up their bricks and mortar restaurant on Blossom Street in Ancoats in 2018.
They also have an outlet at the Etihad campus, and the van still makes appearances all over, from the Carlton Club in Whalley Range to Parklife.
Trademark dishes like their ‘Feasty Boys’ meal – fried fish pieces with skin-on chips and minted mushy peas – also come alongside the likes of the Vegangstarr, the Halloumi, Myself and I.
Sides like battered pickles, chilli batter onion rings and mushy pea fritters have also become the stuff of legend, and the Blossom Street restaurant also plays host to live gigs and DJ sets.
Their arrival at New Century will also bring with it some festive specials, like cauliflower mac n cheese balls and curry batter sprouts.
