With pretty much every event cancelled throughout the world over the last year, and many more dropping off this year, the future doesn’t look bright for street food vendors who typically relied on serving their grub up at weddings and festivals.
With the exception of some organisers still soldiering on, street food has been forced online, perhaps operating from dark kitchens, back gardens or anywhere they can to keep the ovens fired up and getting food to the mouths of hungry Mancs.
Looking to re-coup some of this lost business is Hip Hop Chip Shop, who will be popping up at The Carlton Club in Whalley Range this week, offering collection and delivery, which is great news for the people of South Manchester. Fantastic news actually.
The traditional chippy experience but turned up to 11, the Hip Hop Chip Shop have made a big impression on the city over the last few years, and they even managed to secure themselves a bricks and mortar location in Ancoats – right next to the Michelin-starred Mana no less.
Firing up the chip pans from next Friday 5th February, you should expect the usual sexy take on traditional chippy dishes, such as the Meat Junkie (£11.50); Chilli batter sausage wrapped in bacon + chunky skin-on chips & curry sauce, and the Halloumi, Myself & I (£11.50); Battered halloumi fingers with chunky skin-on chips and minty mushy peas.
The menu is packed with such delights and no matter what you order you’ll be impressed. But here’s a bit of advice for you to make the entire experience a little bit better; make sure you buy their Battered Gherkins (£4) for the side – they make everything 10x better.
