Even though summer might be on its last legs, the wave of new openings throughout the city shows no sign of slowing. September is set to see the arrival of a beloved London chop house, the expansion of an iconic jerk chicken spot, and the return of some seriously good sandwiches.
Here’s the new openings that are about to land, or have just landed, in Manchester…
Archway Pizza – Open now
Neapolitan pizza and pizza-based deserts to takeaway, nestled under a – you guessed it – railway arch on Temperance Street. Satisfy sourdough cravings both sweet and savoury with loads of classic toppings, not-so classic ones, and even banana, salted caramel and chocolate concoctions.
Bada Bing – Opening 19 September
Almost no introduction needed for these guys. The deli sandwich kings who made a name for themselves slinging outrageous Italian-style sarnies from within Ancoats General Store (and a hole in the wall on Radium Street prior to that) left a gaping, sub-shaped hole in the city. Well, good news, they’re back with their own dedicated gaff on Oldham Street. Sandwich equilibrium is restored.
Buzzy Bee – Opening 31 August
With a successful bakery in Wilmslow, Sisters Millie and Lydia have buzzed their way into town, where they are set to open a second site in the former Oké Poké unit on Church Street. Expect joyfully outrageous cookies, brownies and cakes loaded with every sort of childish chocolatey delight you can imagine.
Blacklock – Opening 27 September
Beloved London-born chop house Blacklock has been teasing their arrival in Manchester for some time now, but September will finally see them open their doors. Their approach to dining is low on frills, but big on personality. Their basement spot on Peter Street will serve a speedy lunch menu, platters of red meat, unlimited grandma-style desserts and roast dinners to rave about.
Cafe Continental – Opening 1 September
Who says you can’t do small plates in Stalybridge? Cafe Continental promises super chic Mediterranean bites like tiger prawns and oysters, natural wine and cocktails. There’s a lot of excitement around this stylish spot, and bookings are already open.
Cutie Pie Pizzetta – Open now
Taking over Worsley’s Cup and Crumb on a Saturday night is Cutie Pie Pizzetta, a pizza tapas concept where it’s all about variety. The menu consists of loads of different 6″ Neapolitan pizzas, which are three for £18. Take your pick from classics like margherita or ham and mushroom to in-house creations like slow-cooked beef and chimichurri or buffalo chicken and blue cheese. Enjoy margs with your marghs? It’s just an extra £6 to add the cocktail too.
Detroit Slims – Opening soon
The team behind key Manchester nightlife spots Ramona, Firehouse and Diecast have announced their new venture, opening this Autumn at Circle Square on Oxford Road. Detroit Slims will be a casual dining spot with a ‘game-changing approach to Detroit-style pizza’. The concept is simple: 10-inch long, rectangle-shaped bases to create the perfect quality takeaway option or speedy bite to eat-in. Plus, they’re giving away 10,000 free pizzas on opening. Dough Club – Opening 8 September
Detrot-style pizza continues its domination. Dough Club will serve it by the pie or by the slice from a takeaway window in Withington.
El Kabron – Opening mid-September
This new tapas spot from the people behind La Bandera promises all things Northern Spain in the form of pintxos, tapas and sangria, as well as live music. The mischievous little brother to the aforementioned La Bandera, El Kabron translates as ‘the ass’, or ‘the bastard’. We like their style.
Fuego – Open now
A new addition to Piccadilly Gardens’ Street Food Market, Fuego are bringing the heat to city centre lunchtimes. Following the philosophy of doing one thing really well, these guys are serving up cheesy birria tacos which are richly flavoursome with a fiery kick. Quick, tasty and properly messy too.

This bold and cheerful Vietnamese spot is opening its first city centre location, expect lunchtime-saving bowls, broths and banh mi.

Jerk Junction – Opening soon
With spots in Chorlton, Wilmslow and Media City, these Jamaican street food heroes are opening up in The Orient, the iconic Trafford Centre food hall. Get ready to punctuate your weekend shopping trips with Caribbean dishes like curry goat, lamb patties and even a mixed roast with Yorkshire puddings and West India-inspired gravy.
Kontrast – Opening soon
Manchester is set to get it’s very first sauna and ice bath cafe, and it’s set to be suitably chic. Kontrast are all about extolling the virtues of contrast therapy (simply put, going between being very hot and very cold). More commonly seen in Scandinavia, Taiwan and Japan, apparently the wellness benefits are huge. This one will have three saunas and three ice baths, and a cafe by Blossom Coffee Roasters too.
Louis – Opening 13 September
The team behind Tattu and Fenix are opening yet another theatrical late-night dining and drinking spot in the city, and this one is all about old-timey glamour. Louis is set to be an American-Italian spot with plush booths, a jazz soundtrack and a classy-as-anything food and drink menu. Bookings for this ‘love letter to NYC’ are now open.
Pasta Evangelists Manchester Airport – Opening soon
This popular Italian spot with restaurants in London, and a much loved line of DIY pasta kits, they’re opening up in Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport for relaxed brunch and fresh pasta all day. Ideal for getting into the holiday mood, whether you’re off to Italy or not.
Rolled – Open now
Freshly opened in The Trafford Centre, Rolled are an on-the-go sushi concept inspired by the Aussie way of life (and sushi). Hand rolls, as they are called, are a cross between a maki roll and a burrito, perfect for a healthy but filling lunch on the move. And speaking of getting moving, you better get down early as Rolled have been selling out regularly.
Super Awesome Deluxe – open Sept (date TBC)
With a name like that, Super Awesome Deluxe is setting the bar high. Luckily, they’re comfortable with high bars. It’s from the people behind burger renaissance pioneers Almost Famous (their original venue was quite literally a ‘high bar’, being on the first floor of a walk-up on High Street). The new concept will be takeaway-only, and just around the corner from where it all started, where queues formed, burgers were flipped and good times had. Super Awesome will be considerably more pared down though. A tight menu of three, simple-but-effective smash burgers for the people, with hand-cut fries and homemade sauces, to a soundtrack of 80s vibes in the day, and drum & bass at night. Bring it on.
The Trading Route – Opening tbc
Monton’s luxury larder of expertly sourced wine and groceries, Wandering Palate, makes its city centre debut at The Trading Route. A vast new food and drink concept from the minds behind Trof and Manchester Union Brewery, The Trading Route will also serve rotisserie chicken and loads of ale. Find this greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts space on the ground floor of Manchester Goods Yard, where it will call the likes of Factory International, Fenix and Caravan its neighbours.
