Just opened at Side Street Studio on Quay Street is the excellent new pop-up kitchen Tartuffe.

From the folks behind Manchester chef collective Hot Buttered, the chicken is king. ‘Sexy’ even – their words not ours – with their on-site rotisserie in heavy rotation.

These birds are brined, roasted and served up with wild sides from chicken dripping roasts to a spicy macaroni cheese with Aleppo chilli pepper. Even their roast celeriac is given the rotisserie treatment, turned out Waldorf salad style with Jersey blue cheese.

But their chicken kiev sandwich is one of the best things we’ve seen stuffed into a baguette in a long, long time, lavished with garlic and herb butter parsley aioli and Ogleshield cheese.

For the non-carnivores, the rotisserie celeriac sandwich, with smoked ewes milk cheese, marmite mayo and shoestring potatoes, is also a cracker.

The best bit? Manchester’s Finest subscribers will be able to grab a Chicken Kiev or Rotisserie Celeriac sandwich and a pint of Manchester’s Finest Light Lager for £9 until Friday 19 July.

It’s a great addition to this side of town, with Side Street Studio emerging as a destination bar just a skip from the likes of Schofield’s, The Blues Kitchen, Fenix and Aviva Studios – also where Soho House will be opening its doors later this year.
