For some, a Sunday is a day for nipping down to DFS, a leisurely stroll in B&Q for some tungsten tipped screws, followed by the Antiques Roadshow and some Horlicks before an early night – ready for work in the morning.
For the rest of us though it’s the perfect day for a slap-up Full English Brekkie to get things going, with a few glasses of Prosecco to wash it all down. Then maybe a trip into town for more bevvies, a Roast Dinner and a few hours dancing about – all ready to be hungover for work in the morning.
Looking to get involved in the latter of these two options is Escape to Freight Island, who have created The Sunday Social Club, a weekly knees up with an extra special Steak & Lobster Menu, “the best Bloody Mary’s in town” and live entertainment from musicians and DJs.
Indulge in the finest quality live-fired 55-day aged Hanger Steak with Bernaise sauce (£20) and the most delicious Poached Cold Water Lobster Roll (£20), complimented by a range of bites, sides and sauces, including some pretty special Mac & Cheese options.
To go with your food is a dedicated Bloody Mary Menu, featuring a Classic, Umami and Clamato – the tomato and clam offering that they all drink in LA.
The menu also features some pretty impressive sauces that can be perfectly paired with your steak and/or lobster, including the classic peppercorn (for the dads), jalapeño and blue cheese.
Each week will see different entertainment, live music and DJs, with this week’s being Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay headlining, supported by all-star residents Jenna G and Rich Reason.
Sunday 6th March will see Manchester-based electronic music duo – K Klass – take to the decks, while Mercury-nominated musician and one half of ‘Tomorrows World’ – Lou Hayter – will be providing the disco-inflated 80’s hits on Sunday 20th March.
The gofather of Balearic beats and Space Ibiza legend DJ Alfredo will be headlining the Sunday Social on the 27th March, while the 3rd April will see an Alfresco Festival takeover, with DJ & Producer Justin Robertson B2B with Sassy Wylie.
The Sunday Social Club joins an already packed calendar of events and happenings over at Escape to Freight Island – including comedy nights from The Comedy Store, club nights, live Six Nations games, cabaret, choirs and my personal favourite – £1 Oysters at Jane Eyre every Thursday night.
