The Christmas Markets in Manchester are massively popular – the perfect place in November and December to get your hands on huge bratwurst, mulled wine and those little pancakes that mesmerise when being flipped on Instagram.
The whole German Markets thing has moved on over the years to incorporate a wide range of dishes and cuisines from all over the world, but there’s never been much in the way of Spanish food and drink – until now.
After Lunya disappeared on Deansgate, there’s been a gaping hole left over – one that can provide us with high-quality Spanish food, wine, booze and ingredients – but this year, independent Spanish restaurant La Bandera have stepped up to fill the void.
They’ve launched their Christmas Markets Deli – offering up a selection of ingredients, hampers and kits so that you can enjoy (and create) your favourite dishes at home.
Deli Hampers
La Bandera’s Deli Hampers are tailor-made gift boxes, personalised gifts designed for that certain person in your life. So there’s the ‘Cerveza Lovers Hamper‘ (£28) which comes with 4 bottles of Alhambra beer (including the amazing Reserva) and a branded glass, and the ‘Gin Lovers Hamper‘ (£35.99) with a bottle of Larios Spanish Gin, tonic and a goblet to drink it all out of.
La Bandera’s wine list is one of the very best in the city, and so they’ve created Wine Hampers for the people in your life that love top-quality, small batch plonk. They’ve got Red, White and Rose, plus Cava Hampers – each featuring a bottle of wine and glass.
Spanish Food Kits
Try your hand at making a proper Spanish Paella for Two with La Bandera’s new kit (£25). It includes everything you need to create an authentic paella, including proper ‘bomba’ rice, paella spices, olive oil and your very own paella dish to cook it all in.
They also offer up a Churro Kit (£7.95) – so you can try making your very own churros, including that lovely chocolate dip.
Charcuterie
La Bandera’s Deli offers up speciality artisan cheeses and cured meats, including acorn-fed Chorizo Ibérico (£2.95), Pork Salchichón sausage (£3.25) and Ibérico Lomo (£3.95), plus Spanish cheeses such as Manchego and the crumbly six-month cured Carpuela.
Oils, Vinegars and Ingredients
Also available in the La Bandera Deli is a range of the finest olive oils, vinegars and spices, plus Paella Salsas, spice mixes and Pimentón Smoked Paprikas.
In addition, you’ll find a range of snacks, from Pitted Manzanilla Olives (£5.50) to Toasted Almendras Almonds (£6.50), and Quillo crisps – including the brilliant White Truffle flavour.
Beers & Wines
There’s also an impressive range of Spanish beers (Estrella and San Miguel), and a huge offering of wines and Spanish liqueurs. Perfect for Christmas presents this year – you can’t go wrong with a bit of booze.
If you’re looking for some Spanish gear this Christmas, La Bandera’s Deli and Christmas Market is perfect. You can pop into their restaurant, or head on over to their website below to get things ordered…
