Cult Leeds fashion label Mki Miyuki Zoku will be heading to Manchester later this month to set up a pop-up concept store at Harvey Nichols.

The pop-up will show off the label’s SS24 collection, and will launch on 15 August.

Featuring a capsule of pieces that will be exclusive to Harvey Nichols, the second floor pop-up will be designed to look just like the label’s Leeds flagship store.

It will feature a ‘monochrome colour pallet, signature lighting and splashes of greenery’ – in order to highlight the brand’s latest clothing collection as well as a capsule of pieces that will be exclusive to Harvey Nichols.

The indie label was founded back in 2010 by designer Vik Tailor, the name taken from a renowned ‘youth tribe’, or fashion subculture which emerged in 1960s Japan, called the Miyuki Zoku, who would congregate around Miyuki-dori Street in Ginza, central Tokyo.

Known for their take on the preppy, Ivy League style of streetwear, they caused a considerable stir among the conservative establishment of Japan.

MKI takes influence from the maverick-yet-understated fashion statements of the group to create its own aesthetic, and is sold in high-end retailers from END and Flannels to Bloomingdales, as well as Harvey Nichols stores in Birmingham, Bristol and Dublin.

“The ethos behind the brand is produce premium, luxury essentials that are at a much more modest price point,” said Vik.

“We focus a lot on fabrics – we go fabric sourcing in Paris, going there two or three times a year. The exclusives we’ve done for Harvey Nichols, we’ve taken a lot of our core styles and done them in a range of pigment dyed colours which are exclusive to Harvey Nics.”

He added: “The biggest thrill for us is still seeing the customers wearing the product. It’s the same feeling we got when we put that first piece of MKI out there.”
