Mustard Tree is asking Greater Manchester residents who believe in its mission in combating poverty and preventing homelessness to join its new monthly-giving campaign.

The ‘High Fivers’ campaign is a call for support from individual regular donors to give five pounds a month to help fund the charity’s core services, from training resources to items for its Food Clubs – amidst a significant rise in demand for its services.

“We are entering a crucial time for our charity,” said Jo Walby, Mustard Tree CEO. “We’re supporting more people now than at the height of the pandemic, with an unprecedented upsurge in people who are struggling to make ends meet.”

The aim of the campaign from Mustard Tree is not to secure large monetary donations from individuals during a time where most of us are feeling the pinch, but to create a movement for change in which many people give an amount they can afford.

The campaign launch coincides with ‘Giving Tuesday’ – the global giving day that was celebrated yesterday following the well-known shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Harry Dwan, Fundraising and Advocacy Lead said: “We need to think differently about how Greater Manchester residents can help us combat poverty – but also future proof the charity. Joining the High Fivers campaign by giving five pounds a month can make all the difference to someone facing hardship or crisis”.

The ask comes amid pressures on many Third Sector organisations, which are feeling the impact of the economic downturn more immediately, both in income and demand on services.

According to the Civil Society, the cost-of-living crisis has prompted one in seven (14%) people to say they will cut back on charitable donations to help manage their bills.

Walby concluded: “We’re asking people to be part of something. If you believe in what we do and our approach to combating poverty – please support us now as we can’t do this alone.”
