If you want pancakes, 19 Café Bar has got them. A well-loved spot in the heart of the ever-enticing Northern Quarter, this place occupies an enviable position on Lever Street, with a great choice of outdoor seating for those looking to take advantage of the ample people watching opportunities on hand. Suffice to say, though, there are more reasons behind the loyal following the team have built for themselves, with people choosing to flock here over abundant competition elsewhere due to the combination of incredible (albeit rather guilty) pleasures like caffein and indulgent breakfasts.
Best known for high stacks of fluffy pancakes served fresh from the grill on a daily basis, before we get into the details we’ll start with the goods. Locally sourced produce dominates, and management are committed to supporting other independent businesses, as is proven by the list of suppliers. Coffee comes straight from the crew at Heart & Graft roasters in nearby Newton Heath, and these excellent ingredients are used to create breakfast and lunch classics served with a twist. Meanwhile, regularly changing specials are also a big part of the lure at 19 Café Bar, and definitely contribute to the number of happy returning customers.
On the menu itself, standout options obviously include the pancakes — here in Kinder, Biscoff, maple syrup and crispy bacon, fruit, Belgian chocolate and Oreo varieties. There’s also an eye-catching line of French Toast (apple and cinnamon is a firm favourite, but Oreo, classic, Biscoff and Kinder are more than worth a look, too). Those on a healthier tip might want to punt for the Berry or Vegan Smoothie Bowl instead, while savoury fans will delight in the generous Full English, Veggie, Irish, and American breakfasts. Throw in a number of Benedicts (bacon with black pudding, chorizo, sweet potato, or royale), Bagels (from avo to halloumi), extensive range of caffeinated and non-caffeinated iced drinks and fully stocked alcohol bar, and you can’t ask for much more.
