We all need to start living with circularity and the circular economy front of mind — reusing, recycling, re-loving, rather than replacing. It’s what the environment needs, with consumer electronics and clothing two of the biggest unnecessary contributors to the global waste crisis. And, ultimately, it’s what your wallet needs. This ethos sits at the very heart of Catch My Thrift, a bold concept for vintage and second hand fashion that delivers affordability and sustainability in equal measure
The brand itself launched with the goal of making vintage garments “more accessible and instantly wearable by providing pre-washed, ironed and ready-to-wear clothing”. But the real genius was the pricing, with a commitment to selling high quality items for £20 and under. Since its inception, Catch My Thrift has operated online and, for a time, at from a temporary spot on Deansgate. Now this has evolved into a brand new, secondhand concept – Catch My Kilo. A pop-up fashion fire sale which operates on a monthly basis at the historic Hallé at St Michael’s, Ancoats, one of the city’s unsung musical and architectural gems.
A simple but hugely appealing idea, at each edition around three tonnes of vintage clothing will be available to buy. Customers grab a bag, pick out anything their hearts desire, and then pay the price of £18 per kilo. More than a fair ask, given you can expect to see find such as Prada, Armani, Barbour, Louis Vuitton, Dickies, Carharrt, Levis, Adidas, Nike and more in and among the stock. Attendees can also expect food and drink on offer at the events, alongside live DJ sets from selected selectors. Definitely one of the most unique ways to shop in town right now, the thrill is in the unknown, not to mention the whole bargain basement multi-buy offer, often on high end threads.
