Situated in the picturesque semi-rural village of Boothstown, close to equally green Worsley, Coal & Cotton is a sophisticated spot serving refined drinks and flavourful eats to a notably clued up customer base. On the one hand, a modern pub with highly regarded restaurant, on the other, a small batch gin distillery producing a hand crafted take on one of Britain’s favourite spirits, it should go without saying this place is all about exacting standards, attention to detail, care and consideration.

The food menu certainly makes all that clear. British classics are combined with subtle global influences for unique dishes. Stonebaked pizzas, mouthwatering steaks, king prawn linguine, pork belly and pan fried seabass share honours with buratta and roasted peach salads, Lancashire cheese and onion pie, and mushroom risotto. And that’s just the a la carte. A separate breakfast menu is also available, which includes some well made liquid options, for example juniper-based bloody Mary and the Joseph Evans Livener (gooseberry gin, maple syrup, lemon and cranberry juice). Meanwhile, afternoon tea is served Monday to Saturday from midday to 4PM, kids have an extensive choice to bite into, there’s a Soup & Sandwich range for lighter lunches and on Sundays they serve one of the best Sunday roasts in Manchester

Interior design is one of the standout aspects of Coal & Cotton, with the bar area wrapping around the statement distillery section itself, making a big visual impact. Here, Boothstown Gin in various varieties is freshly bottled ready for purchase either on-site or in specialist stores, both nearby and online – including their Orange Blossom Gin that won a silver medal at the prestigious World Gin Awards this year.

This being a pub, naturally you’ll find a wide range of beers and ciders on offer, along with a strong selection of wines. All that aside, entertainment also factors, with live bands invited to play most weekends, ensuring a lively, buzzing vibe as the sun disappears behind the surrounding countryside and a laidback party mood sets in.
