Withington doesn’t always shout as loud as neighbouring neighbourhoods — the Didsburies, Fallowfield and Rusholme are all within easy striking distance. But this corner of South Manchester is home to a number of gems. Founded in 2017, Eat Meat Halal is one. As the name might suggest, this is, first and foremost, a Halal steakhouse, although it’s best described as a restaurant for carnivores of all persuasions. It’s also one of the most memorable dining experiences you’re likely to have any time soon thanks to the theatrics inside: think robot waiters, and that’s just for starters.
Quickly gaining a reputation for top quality steaks, warm atmosphere and incredible service (yes, humans are on hand, too), the team “bring extra flair to the steakhouse culture.” That’s certainly evident in the plates and bowls themselves, which often come with flamboyant presentation as standard. Onto the menu, and the early courses open with choices including Grilled Lamb Cutlets, Chicken Wings, BBQ Ribs, Grilled Halloumi, Mixed Olives, Dynamite Prawns, Beef Bao Bun, and Battata Harrara (Moroccan-style spicy potatoes). All the better to prepare for the star attraction — exquisite cuts of meat sourced from some of the best suppliers on the planet.
Pick from Uruguayan fillet, Argentinian Ribeye, Ex-Dairy Spanish Tbone, Black Onyx Sirloin, and Wagyu Rump — to name but a handful of the steak options at Eat Meat. Unless otherwise agreed, all come medium rare-medium, on a hot stone, and marinated in a house style with chimichurri dressing. Peppercorn, mushroom and gravy sauces are also available. Beyond that, Mains such as Chicken Sizzler Steak, Cannon of Lamb, and Pan-Fried Salmon are on offer, too, as is a range of burgers (Bang Bang Wagyu, Rib, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, we could go on). Kids get their own selection, and you’ll find a range of sides (noodles, steamed veg, Mac & Cheese, corn) and Desserts to accompany.
